When Barry Goudy found out he had multiple sclerosis he feared the worst. Doctors told him he might lose his eye sight and the ability to walk. As a very active husband, father and hockey coach, Barry couldn’t think of anything worse than losing his ability to get around. But then he learned of a new way to treat MS with a stem cell transplant. The transplant worked and today he’s living proof of the miracles that can come from Adult Stem Cell Research.

“Science must NOT contradict with humanity” says Michelle, an Adult Stem-Cell Researcher, on a call to The Savage Nation – Host, Michael Savage An embryo “that which grows,” (the proper Latinate form would be embryum) is a multicellular diploid eukaryote in its earliest stage of development, from the time of first cell division until birth, hatching, or germination. In humans, it is called an embryo from the moment of implantation until the end of the 8th week, whereafter it is instead called a fetus.

President Obama’s lifting of federal restrictions on the use of embryonic stem cells in scientific research has generated considerable news coverage and many questions from our supporters about the impact of this reversal on our own research. Our most promising new stem cell investigations are on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS), which are created by reverse-engineering cells from readily available skin samples. MRF COO Rusty Bromley has made this brief video about MRF’s use of stem cells in myelin repair and the potential they offer for myelin repair in MS. Please send us your questions regarding MS and myelin repair research to info@myelinrepair.org We will be creating more videos to answer YOUR questions. July 8, 2007 presentation by Irv Weissman for the Stanford School of Medicine Medcast lecture series. Irving Weissman, MD, director of the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, discusses the state of adult and embryonic stem cell research. His work is with adult stem cells, primarily of the blood but also of the brain. He thinks these cells have enormous potential for treating disease such as cancer. WWW.EUX.TV — Many commentators say that the lack of common rules are obstructing research, denying patients access to the most advanced treatment. In addition uncontrolled experiments can pose a danger to patients. The European Commission has proposed an attempt to codify rules and guidelines in the area. The Parliament’s Environment Committee adopted a report on the matter on 31 January – a report authored by Slovak MEP Miroslav MIKOLÁŠIK (PPE-DE) . The Committee backed a draft EU regulation designed to encourage the development of gene therapy, cell therapy and tissue engineering. However, MEPs are demanding guarantees about the safety of the products and techniques used and would also like to see more support for smaller companies working in this field. The report recommends the following: – Creating common rules for advanced therapy. – Establishing a new Committee in the European Medicines Agency to allow centralised evaluation, authorisation, supervision and monitoring. – Ensuring a high level of health and safety. The report is scheduled for first reading at Parliament’s part-session 23-26/4/2007
