Paula Cannon speaks at the 2011CIRM Grantee Meeting about a stem cell-based therapy for HIV/AIDS. Cannon is a co-principle investigator on a disease team that has the goal of engineering a person’s own bone marrow to make the cells resistant to HIV. CIRM awarded a million grant to support the program.

John Zaia, MD, spoke at the “Spotlight on Disease Team Awards: HIV/AIDS,” an educational event presented at the CIRM Governing Board meeting on April 29, 2010. Zaia is the chairman in department of virology and he holds the Aaron D. and Edith Miller Chair for Gene Therapy at the Beckman Research Institute at the City of Hope. Zaia was introduce by Jeff Sheehy, a patient advocate member of the CIRM Governing Board. The CIRM-hosted event was presented at City of Hope in Duarte, California. Anchor Therapeutics announces publication demonstrating pepducin technology as novel approach to target GPCR
Anchor Therapeutics today announced the publication of new research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA. The paper describes the identification and characterization of a pepducin-based allosteric agonist that targets CXCR4, a chemokine G protein-coupled receptor found on hematopoietic stem cells and other bone marrow-derived cells.
