Republicans, what exactly stops you from voting Liberal?

Jun 29, 2009

Eric S asked:

What makes you not just think and argue things like these:

Look, Liberals care about poor people. They want to pass legislation to help people in need, they want to make the public functions of our government better, for the benefit of all.

And they care about great scientific advances like embryonic stemcell research, better environmental conditions through EPA legislation. Hilary Clinton could be the first female president ever!

Arguments like these for example.

You could have so much more power in the poorest Americans if they had more government benefits to turn to.

What makes you say no no no no no? Not to take sides here.

Simply put, how would you describe what it’s like to be a Liberal? From a Republican perspective?

My brain functions correctly, not on PCP fumes.

Liberals love to give away stuff that is not theirs. Most don’t care about the working class, caring only for the “disadvantaged” people, (people who live on mommy and daddy’s couch until they’re 46, eating potato chips all day), and homosexuals. Why do they deserve my money? I go to work everyday, and get taxed. I live paycheck to paycheck with my money, and I should be happy to share my money??? Liberals do not actually get anything done, all they do is cry about life not being fair, well, enter the real world, and you’d die of shock.

*** There are plenty of honest, hard working people that would benefit from government programs, but the truth is, the government doesn’t take care of them. We could give the government our entire paychecks, and that would not be enough for them to fix all the problems we face from day to day. It sucks, but it’s true.

You’ll probably get answers insulting our intelligence. You watch. Catty people.

I have met some very outstanding republicans on here who will be honest and not take questions like this as an opportunity to put someone down. Kudos to those people.

    Just had to say sorry.

    Edit:See :)

All of this sounds real good when it’s my dollars your using to do what you think is morally justifiable. All the while you turn your lip up at me if I feel like I should have a say in where those dollars go.

People should not be forced into government sanctioned charity.

i don’t think the GOP is looking to dupe poor americans into controlling them. The GOP isn’t about taking power, it’s about giving power back to the people, and that includes the power to handle their own finances without the gov’t taking too much of their money.

Exactly stops you from voting Liberal? I have functional higher brain centers.

I don’t support using humans, even embryonic ones, for resarch. (BTW your embryonic stem cells aren’t panning out research wise, stem cells taken from the bone marrow of adults work much better. )

I understand that if you ban drilling for oil and gas off of the west coast, and the east coast, and Florida, and much of the gulf coast, and you ban drilling for gas and oil the government lands in the western US and the Rockies and in ANWAR the price of oil will hit $150 a barrel and poor people won’t be able to pay to keep their houses warm in the winter or to drive to work.

I understand that if you mandate that 1/4 of the U.S. corn crop go into ethanol, in order to try to replace the oil you won’t let people drill for, that food prices will rise, and poor people will starve. I think that in a world where millions of children don’t have enough to eat it is a sin to turn food into biofules.

I understand that all those benefits you like to give people have to be paid for.

I don’t give a rats behind what gender my President is, (I’d like nothing more than for Margaret Thatcher to come out of retirement and get the job) but I do demand they be honest, (not an obvious liar) and that they understand basic military, strategic, and economic principles.

I think that anyone who would oppose the execution of a convicted cop killer, but supports the killing of an innocent unborn child is morally bankrupt.

I passed Econ 101, I can think, I have morals. Therefore I am a Conservative.

I don’t vote liberal because I have a brain and use it. I also believe that everyone should be held accountable for themselves. I DO believe in helping out the needy but with limits. Welfare should not be a lifelong thing like the libs believe. You should be FORCED to work for the money you get or you don’t get any. If not, you breed a class of welfare recipients that live their lives on the government teat. Communism is a grand idea but is doomed to failure because of mans inherent laziness. We will not work if someone gives us money and food.

Life is tough and we all have our problems. Learn to deal with them and move on.

I like to think and not be robbed by the government and have the fruits of my labor given to people who refuse to put in effort. How can anyone say they care about the poor and then do all they can to keep them poor and dependent on government or teach them to feel entitled to other peoples earnings? Now Hillary wants me to pay for other peoples health care, illegal aliens and such, while not being allowed to go to the doctor of my choice. What the he……LET THEM GET A JOB AND PAY FOR THEIR OWN HEALTHCARE. If they are truly disabled, there are already state and federal programs for TRUE cases.

Taxes. They couldn’t care less what happens to America or their fellow citizens – just let them keep more money and pay less in taxes.

Allow some of my Capitalist friends to explain if for me.

“Every time the government attempts to handle our affairs, it costs more and the results are worse than if we had handled them ourselves.”
    —Benjamin Constant

“The holier-than-thou activists who blame the population for not spending more money on their personal crusades are worse than aggravating. They encourage the repudiation of personal responsibility by spreading the lie that support of a government program fulfills individual moral duty.”
    —Patrick Cox

“The welfare state cannot operate without the police state.”

    —John T. Flynn

“And the reason good intentions go awry is because you’re spending somebody else’s money.”

“There is a sure-fire way to predict the consequences of a government social program adopted to achieve worthy ends. Find out what the well-meaning, public-interested persons who advocated its adoption expected it to accomplish. Then reverse those expectations. You will have an accurate prediction of the actual results.”

“I support a government that stays out of my wallet and out of my bedroom.”

    —Milton Friedman

“A government big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away.”
    —Barry Goldwater

“That is the paradox of dogmatic liberalism: Though it loudly declares itself a champion of the weak; it is actually an unrelenting truncheon of the strong.”
    —George Grant

“A policy of freedom for the individual is the only truly progressive policy.”
    —F. A. Hayek

“Taxes are not levied for the benefit of the taxed.”

“The greatest productive force is human selfishness.”

“The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.”

“An animal so poor in spirit that he won’t even fight on his own behalf is already an evolutionary dead end; the best he can do for his breed is to crawl off and die, and not pass on his defective genes.”

    —Robert A Heinlein

“If we are made in some degree for others, yet in a greater are we made for ourselves. It were contrary to feeling, and indeed ridiculous, to suppose that a man has less right to himself than one of his neighbors, or indeed all of them put together. This would be slavery, and not that liberty which the bill of rights has made inviolable, and for the preservation of which our government has been charged.”
    —Thomas Jefferson

“Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what’s good for people than people do is a swine.”

“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”

“The free market is ugly and stupid, like going to the mall; the unfree market is just as ugly and just as stupid, except there’s nothing in the mall and if you don’t go there they shoot you.”

    —P. J. O’Rourke

“Every major horror of history was committed in the name of an altruistic motive.”
“The fundamental evil of government grants is the fact that men are forced to pay for the support of ideas diametrically opposed to their own.”

    —Ayn Rand

“Once we accept the flawed view that being cared for by an all-powerful state is the natural order of things, we accept a severe restriction of our freedom. We end up with a hugely expensive structure that is supposed to stop people from sleeping on the streets, being mugged, being unemployed or taking dangerous drugs, while itself exacerbating–if not causing–these problems.”

    —Gregory Sams

“I do not regret the purposeful suicide of a parasitic subpopulation, and seriously question the wisdom and practicality of any investment aimed to bar the lemmings from the sea cliff.”

“We can inhabit the moon or the Welfare office, but not both.”

“If, after accumulating a twenty-five year’s tax-exempt stipend of $500,000 to $800,000, a family still wallows beneath the Federal poverty line, then the arguments for eugenics take on a new immediacy.”

“Nothing is better for America than less Washington.”

“People who think the State is disposed to deliver them from civil disorder will pay for their ignorance with their lives, and those of their loved ones.”

Objective reality is the sworn enemy of Liberal cant.”

“Liberalism fails when it can no longer steal productive people’s wealth.”

There’s this huge myth that Republicans/conservatives don’t care about the poor. Of course we care about the poor – we just disagree about what policies will really help them, and whether it’s ethical to forcibly take resources from one group of people and give them to people with less.

I don’t understand why the Liberals believe that water boarding is an unacceptable way of obtaining intelligence information from a terrorist.
I don’t understand how Liberals believe their rights are being violated by the government tapping into the phone conversations of calls made between the US and foreign countries with Islamic terrorists vowing to kill us.
I don’t understand how Liberals believe the boarders should be open to any immigrants from anywhere and to allow sanctuary cities.
I don’t understand why Liberals exaggerate the deaths of Iraqis and blame all the deaths on America while not having much to say about the 3,000+ lives lost on 911.
I don’t understand why Liberals believe it’s more important to defend the perpetrators of sex crimes on children and show less compassion to the victims.
Why must the poorest Americans have so much more power to do what? How can anyone in their right mind vote Liberal?
