EmCell clinic is a medical center founded in 1994. In all these years, we treated thousands of patients from different countries and performed more than 6000 transplantations of fetal stem cells. The treatment methods developed and used in the clinic helped to save and prolong our patients’ lives, restore different organs and tissues and achieve positive results in treating diseases and conditions that were considered incurable. The simple term “stem cell” actually refers to many different types of cells. The tissue-specific stem cells, or adult stem cells, replenish tissues throughout our lives. Embryonic stem cells exist only briefly in early development before tissues begin to form. Irv Weissman discovered the first tissue stem cells and has helped develop new treatments for disease based on these cells. Weissman has CIRM grant to push embryonic stem cells to form blood and heart muscle stem cells, which could be powerful tools for treating diseases of the heart or blood system. Weissman is Director of the Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine Institute, Virginia & DK Ludwig Professor for Clinical Investigation in Cancer Research, and Professor of Developmental Biology at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Stem cells are one of the keys to life, they potentially nourish, heal and protect us. Stem cells are truly remarkable. They bridge the gap between our origin and what we become. They supply the cells that construct our adult bodies and, as we age, replenish damaged and diseased tissues. A true stem cell is a primitive cell capable of unlimited cell cycles with the capacity to cease being a stem cell and become one of a wide variety of specialized cells that can no longer divide Fetal ste
Scientists have known for some time that Down Syndrome, the most common chromosomal abnormality, is caused by an additional chromosome #21. However, new fetal stem cell research is demonstrating that it is not only the presence of this additional chromosome, but also what the genes are missing, that may impede the development of a Down Syndrome brain. All 50 Secrets of the Sequence videos have an accompanying classroom-tested lesson that encourages students to further explore the video topics. Each lesson includes background information, state and national science standards, discussion questions and answers, teacher notes and an activity that will ensure a hands-on, “minds-on” experience.
